Freesia
Freesia is a well known fragrant flower but there is very little published data about its chemical compostion. From the reports that we have read, Linalool is regarded as the main component in the natural odour. Unfortunately there are no commercially produced extracts of the flower.
From an odour perspective despite the knowledge that Linalool is the main component the effect seems to be more like beta-Ionone. One can only conclude that the Linalool held within the petals of the Freesia is so much purer and radiant than the synthetically produced material.
Formulas for Freesia seem
to be generally based on either ;
1) Linalool plus green Hyacinth like notes of Galbanum, Phenyl Acetaldehyde,
or,
2) Ionones or Methyl Ionones with a background of narcotic notes such
as Ylang, Tuberose and Rose.
